Tips From Hockey School

In April, we had our first ever Hockey School, with Jason Clarke from PuckMasters. Jason has generously decided to share some tips with us on an ongoing basis. Check back regularly to see the latest tip, they will be updated approximately once a month. An archive of previous tips will also be available.

This month's tip:

Wrist Shot

  1. Basic stance, hands and arms in L position
  2. Slide the bottom hand down on the stick
  3. Arms inside the body and top hand elbow is out
  4. Puck between middle and heel of blade
  5. Begin with weight on the back leg
  6. Transfer weight on the front leg and point foot in direction of net
  7. Rolling the wrist and arms inside the body, quickly release
  8. Finish shot with upper body leaning over front leg
  9. Point tip of blade high to the target every time
  10. Stick and blade returns inside the body
  11. Keeps blade closed (covering puck) when shooting
  12. Return to basic stance
  13. Visualize yourself SCORING the goal before you shoot, not just hitting the net and your results will be a GOAL!

Last month's tip:

Two Handed Carries

  1. Always in your hockey players' stance (Knees bent, tilt forward, on the balls of your feet to your arches)
  2. Eyes up and head on a swivel
  3. Loose hands and the bottom hand slides up and down shaft of the stick
  4. L formation with the arms, rolling the wrists, move puck from side to side
  5. Cup the puck on backhand and forehand
  6. Puck should be placed on middle to the heel of the blade
  7. Keep the feet moving
